Los Angeles School District Ethnic School Program

Los Angeles School District is creating an Ethnic School Program.

In LAUSD, we are at a critical moment. The district will present its one semester Ethnic Studies course on February 10th. Ethnic Studies Now, in collaboration with the Council of Ethnic Studies Implementational Integrity, would like to ensure that the course LAUSD submits for approval, is one that is representative of the field, legacy, and language of Ethnic Studies, in honor of the resolution the LAUSD School Board passed on November 18th, 2014. We have several fundamental tenets of ES we have been working with in collaboration with leading ES educators and scholars, and we would like to open up this process to you, all ESN Coalition members, throughout the state of California and beyond.

The National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS) is "the academic organization that serves academic programs, departments and research centers that focus on issues pertaining to Mexican Americans, Chicana/os, and Latina/os." Unlike many professional academic associations, NACCS "rejects mainstream research, which promotes an integrationist perspective that emphasizes consensus, assimilation, and legitimization of societal institutions. NACCS promotes research that directly confronts structures of inequality based on class, race and gender privileges in U.S. society." The association is based in San José, California.

The show “Collection of Elias-Fontes Historia y Relato” (History and Story) at CECUT, The Centro Cultural of Tijuana in Zona Rio, is an exhibition that asks serious questions about the role of the artist in the context of the relentless, pulsating vitality of contemporary capitalism. This is a collection of works whose significance is based in the materials of everyday life. The grotesque, the montrous, the uncomfortable fusion of possibility and destruction, amalgams and cyber-creatures.

Valadez searched for the remains of Joaquin Murrieta, a legendary Mexican outlaw who blazed a trail of revenge and rebellion following the theft of his land, and the rape and murder of his wife. The Head of Joaquin Murrieta (a 30- minute film) is an irreverent, entertaining and often disturbing tale that uses both fiction and documentary story telling devices to tear open a painful and long ignored history: the lynching of Mexican Americans in the Southwest.
