You are invited to our M.E.Ch.A.
event. M.E.Ch.A. along with AS will be showing the documentary Precious
Knowledge this Tuesday September 22nd from 2:30-5p.m. in MS162. We
will be having Rene Zambrano as our guest speaker. Here's a little bit about
Zambrano and what he does:
"Rene Zambrano is a member of the
Association of Raza Educators (A.R.E) chapter and a teacher at Bell Middle
School. The Association of Raza Educators (ARE) was established to uphold
the rights and liberties of the Raza community. Education is essential to
the preservation of civil and human rights. It provides the foundation for all
political and economic progress and it must be a basic right of all
people. Making this right a reality is the fundamental objective of
ARE. Raza has been and continues to be oppressed by the educational system
within the United States. Therefore, we are obligated to ensure that education
serves as a tool for the liberation of our community. He is also a
M.E.Ch.A Alumni from San Diego State University and is currently part of the
San Diego Unified School District Ethnic Studies Now movement to make ethnic
studies a high school a graduation requirement."
