AFT (American Federation of Teachers) is in the process of creating an AFT Internship Program. We are looking for students interested in labor issues, community and student organizing, voter registration and political work. On Wednesday, September 8th from 1:30-3:30pm we will be holding interviews at the AFT Office located at 3737 Camino del Rio South Ste 410. 92108. The positions are paid internships with a stipend of up to $1000/semester. Candidates would be required to work a minimum of 5 hours per week on a wide variety of assignments. Additionally, candidates will need to participate in the BEAT Organizing/Training Day on September 10th from 10-3pm at City College. Interns will be based at San Diego City College but may need to travel to Mesa, Miramar, Cuyamaca or Grossmont to work on student organizing throughout the semester. It is preferable that you have reliable transportation if necessary. Those of you that attend any of the above mentioned campuses should definitely apply. We are interested in interns from each campus if possible.
If you would like an opportunity to interview please write to thecitybeatclub@gmail.com with your name, phone and best email contact address. Additionally, any background or experience that would make you a good candidate. We will set up interview times with you over the next week or so.
It is not necessary that you have a ton of experience...however, you need to be someone who is pro-labor, aware of the upcoming ballot measures and governor's race, dedicated to student organizing and someone with strong communication skills. We will train you!
If you have any questions please let me know!
Sincerely,
Larissa Dorman
